A Person-Centred
Approach
As a counsellor, it is important to me that the people I work with feel comfortable, listened to, and supported. It is important that they feel accepted and that they are provided with what they need in that moment.
All of us are unique, and with that, we have individual needs and experiences, and it is important that you have a counsellor who understands this. It’s important that you have a counsellor that feels right for you, as well as a service that meets your needs.
Short & Long Term Counselling
I offer short- and long-term counselling for adults (18+), both online and in person, with short-term typically consisting of 6-12 sessions, and long-term being 12+ sessions.
You may not be sure how many sessions you need, and that is ok. If after beginning counselling, you decide that you need more or less sessions, that is ok. I will undertake regular reviews with to you to understand how you are feeling about the counselling process and to consider your needs, thereby enabling us to decide together how to continue.

A Person-Centred Approach
The modality of counselling that I practice is person-centred. Person-centred counselling is a therapeutic approach that does as the name suggests – it focuses on you.

You are at the centre of the process. You can bring whatever you wish to the sessions, and the pace is led by you. I will not tell you what to do, or how you should think, feel, or be. You are the expert on you, and I believe and trust in your ability to find your own way.
My role is to walk alongside you, to sit on the bench beside you, to go where you wish to go, as you explore and process your thoughts and feelings, in a space that is safe and supportive. I will support you by listening and understanding, without judgement. Through our conversation, you will develop your own insights and find your own solutions or ways forward.
I work with a variety of presenting-issues, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, low self-esteem, trauma, and many others.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I know if counselling is right for me?It might be that there has been something that has been troubling you for a while, or for only a short period of time. You might have experienced something that you would like to process or understand. Or you may be unsure but have a sense that something ‘isn’t quite right’. Counselling can help with all these, and more. What is most important, is that you feel comfortable with the counsellor, and with the type of counselling being offered. During an initial consultation, we will explore your hopes and expectations for counselling, to help you decide whether you feel that it is right for you.
-
What type of counselling do you offer?I offer person-centred counselling. Person-centred counselling is a non-directive approach, which focuses on you as the individual, and provides a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
-
What happens during a first counselling session?During a first session, we will talk about your reason for attending counselling and what you would like the outcome to be. We will also talk through the counselling agreement, which will give you information about what to expect, and I will be able to answer any queries that you may have.
-
Do you offer online counselling?I do offer online counselling.
-
How much do sessions cost? Each counselling session costs £50, with payment due 48 hours before the session. Discounts are available, including for counselling students – please contact to discuss.
-
How long is each counselling session?Sessions are 50 minutes long.
-
How many sessions can I have?I offer both short- and long-term counselling. Short term counselling is typically 6-12 sessions, with long term counselling being 12+ sessions. Sometimes people are not sure how many sessions they need, and this is ok. We will hold regular reviews to see how you feel that it is going, and to review your needs and goals, so that we can decide how to progress.
-
What happens if I decide that counselling isn’t for me?There is no obligation to go ahead with counselling following an initial consultation, and if you have started sessions, you can also stop them at any time. I do recommend a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice if you have already started counselling and wish to stop, so that we can ensure a proper ending, but I also recognise that this is not always possible.
